This 2006 San Marino 10 euro silver proof coin depicts the Three Graces, a Neo-Classical sculpture, in marble, by Antonio Canova, kept at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
Reverse: Along the rim, on top: CANOVA". In the center, the Three Graces sculpture, finished in 1816. On the sides, “1816" and "2006”. At the botom, the face value.
Obverse: Along the rim, on top, "REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO". In the center, the stylized Three Towers of San Marino, with branches of oak and olive, with the word "LIBERTAS" at the bottom.
Antonio Canova (1757 - 1822) was an Italian sculptor famous for his marble sculptures that delicately rendered nude flesh. The three Graces “Aglalia, Eufrosine, Talia” were Greek divinities represented on a sculpture commissioned by Giuseppina Bonaparte to Canova, the official sculptor of the Bonaparte family.
