The Andrea Palladio 2008 Silver Proof Coin
This 2008 San Marino 10 euro silver proof coin commemorates the 500th Anniversary of the birth of Andrea Palladio, a genial Italian architect and stage designer.
Reverse: On top, the face value. In the center, a view of Villa Pojana and "1508" and "2008". Along the rim at the bottom: “PALLADIO”.
Obverse: Along the rim on top, "REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO". In the center, a detail of the entrance to Villa Poiana and three stylized feathers.
Andrea Palladio (1508 - 1580) gave his name to the Palladian style, which is based on the classic-Roman principles of architecture, in contrast with the lavish Renaissance styles.
The Villa Pojana, located in Pojana Maggiore, was built by Palladio in 1546 for the Pojana family.
