Franco-Japanese Treaty – The Kanei Thuho Silver Proof Coin
The French Mint celebrates the 150th Anniversary of the Franco-Japanese Treaty with this 2008 1.5 euro silver proof coin featuring the Kanei Thuho square-holed coin.

The Kanei Thuho square-holed coin is a Japanese coin used at the time of the Treaty. The Franco-Japanese "Treaty of peace, friendship and commerce" was signed in October 1858. It constitutes the first step in Franco-Japanese relations, which are today both rich and warm.
