The Frédéric Chopin 200th Anniversary, a 2010 silver proof coin from Australia.

Issued by the Perth Mint as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, this 2010 silver proof coin celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frédéric Chopin. Born in Poland, Chopin (1810-1849) was a gifted child performer who played his first public concert at the age of eight. After studying at the Warsaw Conservatory, he embarked on an extensive European tour, arriving in Paris in 1831, where he earned enough income as a piano tutor to spend the majority of his time composing. Chopin’s mazurkas, polonaises, preludes, études, nocturnes, ballades, impromptus and many other works have been described as the richest and most influential legacy left to the piano repertoire by any individual composer.

The coin’s reverse shows a representation of Frédéric Chopin, a large treble clef, music notes, and the inscription ‘Frédéric Chopin 1810 – 1849’. The coin’s obverse depicts Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Perth Mint’s distinctive ‘P’ mintmark, the face value, and the year of issue.
