The Centenary of Australian Commonwealth Silver Coinage, a 2010 silver proof coin from Australia.

The Perth Mint celebrates the 100th anniversary of the introduction of Commonwealth silver coins with the release of this 2010 commemorative silver proof dollar coin. The seeds of this seminal event in the history of Australian coinage were sown in 1901 when, under the new Constitution, control of Australia’s currency was vested in the Commonwealth. Subsequently, the Coinage Act of 1909 saw the replacement of British gold, silver and bronze coins with the Commonwealth’s own coinage, beginning with the 1910-dated Australian florin, shilling, sixpence and threepence depicting King Edward VII.

Later this year, a 2011 follow-up coin with a complementary design will be released by The Perth Mint to celebrate the introduction of the Commonwealth’s first bronze coins in 1911 under King George V.

The reverse portrays King Edward VII, a collection of Australia’s florin, shilling, sixpence and threepence coins issued in 1910, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, and the inscription 'CENTENARY OF AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH SILVER COINAGE 1910 - 2010'. The obverse shows an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, 'AUSTRALIA', the face value, and the year of issue.
