The National Bank of Poland commemorates the heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising with this 2008 silver proof 20 zloty coin featuring the Star of David against a brick wall.

The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising broke out on April 19, 1943 and was a heroic attempt to stop the ultimate annihilation of the ghetto, which started a few months earlier. For three weeks, several hundred Jews held off the heavily armed German army from within the Warsaw Ghetto in Poland. It was the first major act of Jewish resistance during the Holocaust.
