The Governor Lachlan Macquarie, a 2010 Postal Numismatic Cover from Australia containing four stamps from Australia Post’s and one exclusive Perth Mint commemorative dollar coin.

This very special Australia Post’s stamps and coin cover commemorates the start of Lachlan Macquarie’s historic tenure as Governor of New South Wales 200 years ago in 1810.

The coin is housed on an individually-numbered card portraying Macquarie’s framed portrait which fits inside an envelope featuring four 55c Australia Post stamps. Struck from aluminium bronze in uncirculated quality, the coin’s reverse portrays an image of the famous Governor with depictions of a five-shilling holey dollar and a 15 pence dump. Created from a large quantity of Spanish silver dollars acquired by Macquarie in 1812, they represent Australia’s first official coinage. The obverse features an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The first stamp depicts Macquarie and a contemporary view of Sydney. The other three stamps, which are entitled VISIONARY, EMANCIPATOR and BUILDER, portray historical images of Port Jackson, the Parramatta Female Penitentiary and the Governor’s Sydney Stables. The stamps are cancelled with a special post mark featuring an image of Macquarie’s signature and words: "First Day of Issue, 16 February 2010, Macquarie Centre, NSW 2133".
