This 2007 San Marino 5 euro silver proof coin commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the death of Arturo Toscanini, an Italian musician considered by many to have been the greatest conductor of his era.

Obverse: Along the rim, on the left, "REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO". In the center, an allegorical composition of the three strongholds with stave and musical notes, with the word "LIBERTAS".
Arturo Toscanini (1867 - 1957) was nominated director of La Scala in Milan, and conducted the Metropolitan Opera in New York as well as the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. He was renowned for his brilliant intensity, his restless perfectionism, and his phenomenal ear for orchestral detail and sonority.
