The Vassiliy Soloviev Silver Proof Coin


The St. Petersburg Mint honors the 100th Anniversary of the birth of composer V.P. Soloviev with this 2007 silver proof coin, part of the Outstanding Personalities of Russia Series.

Reverse: In the center, a portrait of V.P. Soloviev-Sedoy. In the background, a stylized fragment of a line of music ridden on by two nightingales, silhouettes of a tree crown and the Peter - Powel Fortress in St. Petersburg. At the bottom on the left, the years “1907” and “1979”, and on the right, a reproduction of the composer’s signature.


Obverse: In the center, the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two-headed eagle), with the semicircular inscription “Bank of Russia” framed by a circle of dots. At the top, “Two Roubles”. Along the rim at the bottom, the metal sign, the fineness, the year of issue, the fine metal content, and the mint mark.


Vassiliy Pavlovich Soloviev-Sedoy (1907 – 1979) always dreamed of a career as a pianist for silent movies. He wrote the popular songs “The nightingales”, “Play, my bayan”, “Vasya Kruchkin”, “Why are you so sad, sailor”, “Over the Kama river” and many others. He also wrote the internationally recognized hit “The evenings in Podmoscovie” (a city near Moscow). He won the State prize in 1947. In 1967, he was recognized with the title of National Artist.
