The M.A. Sholokhov Silver Proof Coin
The Moscow Mint honors the 100th Anniversary of the birth of M.A. Sholokhov, a well-known Russian writer, with this 2005 silver proof coin, part of the Outstanding Personalities of Russia Series.
Reverse: On the left, a horseman and a woman by a hurdle carrying pails on a yoke. On the right, a portrait of M.A. Sholokhov. At the bottom on the left, the years “1905” and “1984”, and on the right, the signature of the writer.
Obverse: In the center, the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two-headed eagle), with the semicircular inscription “Bank of Russia” framed by a circle of dots. At the top, “Two Roubles”. At the bottom, the metal sign, the fineness, the year of issue, the fine metal content, and the mint mark.
After serving in the Red Army, Michael Alexandrovich Sholokhov (1905-1984) wrote the novels «And Quiet Flows The Don», «Virgin Soil Upturned», «Fighting for the Motherland», the stories «The Fate of a Man», «Tales From The Don» and other novels of Cossack life. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1965.
