Banks of Russia - The State Labour Savings Bank
The Moscow Mint celebrates the 160th Anniversary of the first savings banks in Russia with this silver proof coin featuring the State Labour Savings Bank.
Reverse: Along the rim, “THE SAVINGS-AFFAIRS IN RUSSIA”. In the center, the Dnieproges dam (the hydro-electric power station on the Dniepr River), a tractor, the rising sun, a savings bank book, and at the bottom, the Russian abbreviation for the State Labour Savings Bank, intertwined by a ribbon.
Obverse: In the center, the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two-headed eagle), with the semicircular inscription “Bank of Russia” framed by a circle of dots. At the top, “Three Roubles”. At the bottom, the metal sign, the fineness, the year of issue, the fine metal content, and the mint mark.
In October 1841, Emperor Nicholas I signed a Decree on the Establishment of Savings Banks in Russia. The Decree allowed the founding of the first savings banks in Russia. The savings-affairs, one of the oldest trends in the activities of credit institutes of Russia, makes it possible for citizens of the country to organize their monetary savings and to build the long-term resources needed for a strong Russian economy.
