Valmiera
This stunning silver proof coin is dedicated to Valmiera, one of the eight Hanseatic cities of Latvia.
Reverse: Near the rim, at the top, the name Vamiera, and the silhouette of St. Simanis' Church, castle ruins, and a reflection of an Hanseatic ship. Near the rim, at the bottom, the mention “Hanseatic City”.
Obverse: The Hanseatic seal with the coat of arms of Valmiera at its center. On the left, an element of St. Simanis' Church interior. On the right, details of the Vidzeme brooch. At the bottom, the year of issue, and the face value.
St. Simanis' Church of Valmiera was built in 1283, and the stone castle of the Order of the Swordbearers with the adjacent settlement of craftsmen and merchants mark the beginning of the city of Valmiera. The edge of the coin shows “Republic of Latvia” and “Bank of Latvia” separated by dots.
