In China, the Great Wall winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus, stretching approximately 4,163 miles. Most of the Great Wall we see today was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). In some areas, two walls built in two different dynasties can be seen running side by side.
The Great Wall of China is still one of the most appealing attractions in the world due to its architectural grandeur and historical significance. It is one of the 830 cultural and natural sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) was established in 1945 and its purpose is to contribute to world peace through education, science, and culture.
