Europa 2007 - The Airbus A380
This Europa 2007 1.5 euro silver proof coin is the latest in the Europa series celebrating the introduction of the Euro. It features the Airbus A380, the largest passenger aircraft ever made.
Reverse: In the center, “A380”, and a representation of the Airbus A380 on a runway. In the background, the outline of a compass. At the bottom, the face value and “RF” for “French Republic”.
Obverse: This side has been the same since the series' inception in 2002, and features an illustration of the goddess Europa with 12 stars - one for each member country at the origin of the economic and monetary union, as well as those that will join in later. Along the rim, at the bottom, the year of issue.
Daughter of Agenor, the legendary king of Phoenicia, and sister of Cadmos, Europa was kidnapped and taken to Crete by Zeus, who had turned himself into a white bull. According to the legend, Zeus and Europa used the Bosphorus (the passage of the bull) to cross from Asia into Europe.
In 2009, Air France will be the first European airline to operate the Airbus A380 Superjumbo Aircraft.
