100th Anniversary of the ACF Le Mans Grand Prix Silver Proof
In January 1906, the French Automobile Club commissioned the department of Sarthe to organize its Grand Prix. This silver proof coin celebrates the mythical Le Mans race circuit, the historical origin of the French Formula 1 Grand Prix and the 24 hours of Le Mans.
Reverse: Along the rim, on top: "Le Mans 1906", and at the bottom: "100th Anniversary of the First French Automobile Club Grand Prix". In the center, inside an older racing car's steering wheel are shown an historic racing car, two automobile dash board instruments, and "RF" for "French Republic".
Obverse: In the center, the steering wheel of a modern racing car, with the design of the circuit at Magny Cours. On top, "Magny-Cours", and the year of issue. At the bottom, the face value.
The Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours is a motor racing circuit located in France, near Nevers. It is most famous for hosting the Formula One French Grand Prix since 1991.
