Wolves were once abundant and distributed over much of North America, Eurasia, and the Middle East. Today, they inhabit only a very limited portion of their former range. They are the largest in the wild canine family, and have a vast communication repertoire including scent marks, vocalizations, visual displays, facial and body postures and rituals.
