The 2006 Cowboy Pure Gold Proof Coin
The third coin in the Smallest Gold Coins Ever Produced By The Royal Canadian Mint Series, this pure gold coin celebrates the modern cowboy that remains a vital part of today.
Reverse: Along the rim on top, “CANADA”. In the center, a cowboy riding a bucking bronco, “9999”, and a small maple leaf privy mark. Along the rim at the bottom “FINE GOLD 1/25 OZ OR PUR”.
Obverse: A portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Along the rim, the inscriptions "Elizabeth II" on the top, and the face value and year of issue at the bottom.
American-style open range ranching began to dominate southern Alberta and Saskatchewan by the 1880s. The city of Calgary, nicknamed “Cowtown”, became the center of the Canadian cattle industry. Despite modern technology, many of the cowboy’s tasks remain unchanged today.
