Lucky Loonie 2004
The Royal Canadian Mint created the 'Lucky Loonie' as a way of passing on its special magic to our Canadian Olympic Team as it prepares to depart for the Athens Olympic Games.
Reverse: Along the rim, at the top, “Canada”. In the center, the Canadian Olympic Committee symbol, and a common loon at rest on a lake with an islet in the background.
Obverse: The portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Along the rim, the inscriptions "Elizabeth II" on the left, and "D•G•Regina" on the right.
This coin is the second Loonie ever produced in sterling silver by the Royal Canadian Mint. At the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002, a loonie brought a stroke of good fortune to Canada when our men's and women's hockey teams skated to victory over a Lucky Loonie buried secretly beneath centre ice.
