The Golden Jubilee of Accession
In 2002, to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee of her accession to the throne, the Perth Mint has released this colorful silver proof coin.
Reverse: In the center, Queen Elizabeth II on horseback during the Trooping of the Color, with a colored image of the Union Jack in the background. Along the rim, a ring of Foot Guards, "Elizabeth II", "1952 - 2002", and "Golden Jubilee".
Obverse: The effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Along the rim, on the left, “Elizabeth II”, on the right “Australia 2002”, and, at the bottom, the face value.
In early 1952, Princess Elizabeth, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburg, left England for an official visit to Australia and New Zealand in the place of her father, King George VI, who was too ill to travel. On February 6th, whilst in Kenya on the first stage of this trip, she received news of her father's death and her own accession to the throne.
