The 120th Anniversary of the Council of Ministers
The Bulgarian National Bank is celebrating the 120th Anniversary of the Council of Ministers (the foundation of the Bulgarian Government) with this 1999 silver proof 10 levs coin.
Reverse: In the center, the outline of the euro zone as of 1999. At the bottom, "EURO". Along the rim, the 12 stars represent the original 12 European Union member states.
Obverse: Along the rim on top: "THE 120TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE COUNCIL OF MINISTERS" and "TODOR BURMOV". In the center, a portrait of Totor Burmov (1834-1906), the first Bulgarian Prime Minister. Along the rim at the bottom, the face value and the year of issue.
The Council of Ministers is the primary component of the executive branch in the Republic of Bulgaria. In addition to the prime minister and deputy prime ministers, the Council is composed of ministers who head the various agencies within the government and usually come from the majority/ruling party or from a member party of the ruling coalition in parliament. The Council is responsible for carrying out state policy, managing the state budget and maintaining law and order.
