Description Technical Information

The 2008 uncirculated 50 cents coin from Canada.

Canada's 50-cent coin bears the Coat of Arms and honors Canada' founding nations: England, Scotland, Ireland and France.

On top of the "achievement of the arms of Canada" is the imperial crown which is indicative of the presence of a monarch as Canada's Head of State. The design of the arms of Canada shows the three royal lions of England, the royal lion of Scotland, the royal fleurs-de-lis of France and the royal Irish harp of Tara. On the bottom portion of the shield is a sprig of three Canadian maple leaves representative of Canadians of all origins. The current Coat of Arms was designed in 1997 incorporating the motto 'Desiderantes Meliorem Patriam' ('They desire a better country'). At the base of the arms are the floral emblems associated with the Canadian Monarchy: the English rose, the Scottish thistle, the French fleur-de-lis and the Irish shamrock.

The obverse shows the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Along the rim, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" on the left, and "D•G•REGINA" on the right. At the bottom, the Royal Canadian Mint mark.

Includes Capsule and Easel.
